Journey to Our Forever Home
Hello friends! I am back. I know it’s been awhile since I’ve posted here on my blog, but wow life has been crazy the last couple of months. Thank you all for being patient with me while I took a little break. I’m so ready to be back! A HUGE update, we recently bought a house on 2 acres and I’m so excited to share it with you all! It’s been a wild ride, but here is the story of our journey to our forever home.

Let me first start off by saying, we were never really looking to move right now. We’ve just always wanted land and it’s never worked out in the past, so we settled for the next best thing. We built a big home on 1/2 an acre, which we truly did love! The only problem was the fact that it was still in a neighborhood.
We are very private people and we spent a lot of money trying to create privacy from our neighbors. It’s just a hard thing to do in a neighborhood. Not to mention my anxiety was on overload with such a big space. Our home was 3,500 square feet. I used to think we needed a huge house and space for everyone to spread out, but in reality that was not at all what we needed. It’s funny how much you evolve as you get older. I’m going to write another blog post on downsizing and how much it’s changed myself and my family for the better!
There were so many weekends we would drive around up near the lake here in South Carolina, dreaming of owning our own property. We would look at land and different homes for sale, but none of them were ever within reach. It was just always something we did when we had nothing else to do. I never really thought we would find something until the kids were grown and gone.
Randomly we decided to drive up this way to look at some pieces of land I had seen. Knowing full well, they were probably not going to work out. Which was fine, we just loved driving around and being here every chance we could.
It’s crazy looking back on this day now. My husband was actually not even feeling that well, but for whatever reason we decided to go anyway. We drove around for a bit and right before we were going to head home, I casually mentioned this house on 2 acres for sale. My husband decided to do a drive by real quick to check it out. Oddly enough the man who was selling the property was outside clearing out a shed. He let us in to look around and we immediately fell in love! So much so, that our kids actually picked out their bedrooms!
Right before we left, the man told us there was a pending offer on the home already, which was a huge disappointment. We called our realtor and decided to take a chance anyway and submit an offer of our own. The very next day we put our house up for sale and it sold in less than 24 hours! Life was chaotic, but we were hopeful and excited. Unfortunately, our offer was not accepted and we found out that there was another backup offer as well. That meant we were 3rd in line. We were devastated. I felt like there was absolutely no way we were getting the house at that point. I cried so many tears. Feeling like we almost grabbed onto our dream, but it was just a tiny bit out of reach still.

For the next month, I searched and searched for a home. We even drove all the way to Mississippi to look at a house. My husband and I both work from home, so no place was off the table. Even with all those options open, we still could not find the one. It seemed like we would never find what we were looking for. To say I went through it that month would be an understatement. I was so scared we had made a huge mistake selling our home. I mean, the only reason we even sold our house in the first place was because of the one we missed out on. We started getting so worried that we even looked into possibly renting, which was our very last resort.
Just as desperation was starting to kick in, we got a phone call from our realtor. A phone call that completely changed our world! Both of the offers on the house we loved fell through. I can’t even begin to describe the emotions I went through that day. So many tears shed. I was happy, I was nervous, I was in shock. I never in a million years thought that would happen.
After that, things went very quickly. And luckily, very smoothly!

This house was meant to be from the very moment we fell in love with it. The way everything played out was insane. Even down to the furniture. The kids picked out their bedrooms, and all of their stuff fits perfectly in their spaces. Each little piece of the puzzle fell into place, even if a few pieces took a bit longer! They are all there now, and our puzzle is complete.
This home has changed me. It’s weird to say, but truly. I’ve always felt like I was living my life on hold, just waiting for the next stepping stone. There were so many stones, so many homes bought and sold all to get us to this place. Now there are no more stones, and I have a sense of peace I’ve never fully felt before. I’m not going to lie, downsizing scared me at first but it was the best decision we have ever made. More stuff and more space, does not always equal more happiness. I learned so much during this whole process and I have so much more I could say about it, but I will leave that for another day!
This journey to our forever home has been a long one, but we are all absolutely in love with everything about this property! It truly couldn’t be more perfect for us. God’s timing is always the best.
