Simple Dining Room Makeover

This project has been something I’ve wanted to do for so long now! Several years ago I sold all of my dark espresso furniture and bought used to repaint white and grey. I absolutely loved it until I moved into our current house. Now I am so over it! Funny how that works, right? I think because everything in our new house is either grey or white, it’s just too much. I’ve been searching for the perfect table for our dining room for awhile. One that was big enough, but not too expensive. I found the perfect fit! Here is our simple dining room makeover.

I forgot to take a picture of the before. I’m still getting used to the fact that I am doing both YouTube and my blog. Sometimes I forget to take the picture because I am so focused on filming. The Table

I’ve had my eye on this specific dining table for a few months now, but it’s always been out of stock. There is only one Ikea near me, and really it’s not even that close (it’s about a two hour drive). With that being said, I basically stalked the website daily to see if it was back in stock. I was so excited when it finally came back! This table is pretty big and super affordable.

At first we bought the table, three black chairs, and a bench. This combination was less than $1,000, and that includes the tax and delivery fee!

To me that’s a steal, because there have been some tables I loved that are over $1,000 just on their own without the chairs. Here’s the thing about this combo though, unfortunately it just didn’t hit the mark for me. This bench is so cute. I love love the idea of it, but it just didn’t work. In my opinion it’s too small for the table, which is weird to me because it’s part of the same collection. Come to find out most of Ikea’s benches are small like this compared to the tables. Not really sure why, but just be aware of that if you are wanting to order!

The Chairs

So off to Ikea for a two hour drive we went! We ended up grabbing three more black chairs and I’m super happy with them. The only reason I grabbed a bench in the first place is because I felt like there were way too many chairs in this space. We had eight dining chairs, four bar stools, and then the chairs in our sunroom. Every time I looked at the dining room, it just felt really overwhelming so I thought a bench could help solve this problem. Sure the idea of the bench is nice, but in reality the chairs probably make more sense for us as a family anyway! I actually don’t mind these specific chairs because they are a lot shorter than our previous chairs.

The Light

The last thing we needed to complete this little dining room makeover is the dining light! I also had my eye on this light for a long time now. I knew I had to grab this to finish everything. The round silver one was just not working for me and would have not looked right with this table!

The Final Look

Here is the final look for our simple dining room makeover! I’m seriously in love. Just changing out a couple of things in a space truly makes such a huge difference.

Next, I would really like to switch out our cabinet handles. That’s another small thing that I think would make a huge impact on the way my kitchen looks, but one thing at a time right?!
