10 Mom Tips to Help Keep You Motivated

I always love doing these types of blog posts because it reminds me to use these same tips to motivate myself! I definitely have my unmotivated days and when I get in that kind of rut, it’s hard to climb back out. Just always remember to take it one step at a time and give yourself grace. Here are my 10 Mom tips to help keep you motivated!

1. Make your bed.
10 Mom Tips to Help Keep You Motivated - Make Bed

I will always and forever keep this tip on any “motivation” list I make. I talked about it and the next tip in my blog post ‘5 Tips How to Keep Up with Your Home‘. Making your bed is such a simple task, but it can make a huge impact on your day. It only takes a couple of minutes to pull up the covers and you can check it off on your to-do list (which I will talk about later). Doing this one little task can make you feel accomplished right away and motivate you to continue checking off your to-do’s throughout the rest of your day!

2. Do one load of laundry a day.

This tip is huge for me. When things pile up I tend to get really overwhelmed, which is never good for motivation. We all know how easy it is for the laundry to pile up, right? With my family of 5, I really have to stay on top of it. Over the years I’ve tried many different things to keep up, this has by far been the best method. I just throw a load in to the wash before I make my morning coffee, then make sure it gets in the dryer, and folded by the end of the day. This way, it’s not overwhelming, and I can stay right on top of it. When I run out of clothes to wash, I move on to towels, sheets, rugs, etc. There’s never a day where I can’t find something to wash!

3. Put yourself together.

Now when I say this, I don’t mean you need to go all out. What I do mean is, every morning do the bare minimum of “getting ready”, whatever that means to you. Everyone is different, so this can be different for everyone. Don’t spend a lot of time on this, just brush your hair, put it up in a claw clip instead of a messy bun, throw a little foundation or powder on, and definitely get dressed! Even if that means just a pair of leggings and a t-shirt. This one can be hard, especially for a stay at home Mom. The line between clothes and pajamas can get easily blurred, but make it a priority to have actual pajamas and save the leggings for the day time. Taking time for self care is huge and will greatly impact your motivation. When you feel good, you will be more productive.

4. Create a daily routine.

This should include the 3 tips above! Creating a routine that works for you is so important for productivity, and if you stay productive, you stay motivated. I’m not necessarily saying you need to do the exact same thing every single day because that could get a little monotonous, and could possibly have the opposite affect. Just have a solid idea of what you will do each day. For example, I get up make my bed, throw in a load of laundry, then sit down and enjoy my coffee before I really start my day. This all of course depends on how you operate. Do whatever works best for you, but if you have a general daily routine or plan you will more likely have a successful day.

5. Get organized.
10 Mom Tips to Help Keep You Motivated - Get Organized

I’m all about organization. I do not thrive in chaos, I shut down. When everything in your home has a place, it is much easier to keep up with the cleaning. Taking care of a home, being a Mom, a cook, a wife, possibly even working on top of all of that. It’s tough. Why make things harder than they have to be? If you know where everything goes it should only take a few minutes to “pick up” and then you can focus on your actual cleaning. I have so many different blog posts on organization – from ideas how to organize certain spaces, to random organization hacks!

6. Use a to-do checklist.

There are so many things we, as Moms, have to remember to do. I’m sure you can come up with a to-do list pages long! Here’s my tip, don’t put everything on one to-do list. Make a realistic to-do list. One that you feel like you can actually finish and feel good about at the end of the day. Write everything down, then figure out what is more of a priority. Pick a handful of things at the top of your list (or however many you feel like you can accomplish) and put them on your checklist for the first day, then go from there making a new checklist each day. Checking things off and being able to physically see what you’ve accomplished during your day is the best! A good way to make these lists or even your daily schedule is in a digital planner. I love mine, check out my blog post for more info.

7. Plan your dinner menu for the week.

There’s just something so great about knowing what you are eating for dinner. After a long day of doing all the Mom things, it’s nice not to have to think about what to make. Every week take a little time to choose a week’s worth of meals and create a grocery list. I like to do mine online at Walmart and have it delivered. Super simple and easy. You can even go as far as assigning certain meals to certain days, which I do sometimes. Most of the time I just have it in a list and have my husband or kids choose from that list! Another tip, pick a day to go easy. Friday is my no cooking night and our family’s pizza night! The kids love it and I get a break. Win-win.

8. Set a timer and clean.

I think this only works when you figure out the time you are most productive during the day. I am not a morning person, so my magic window is never in the morning! I’m most productive early afternoon between 1-3pm. By that time, I’ve enjoyed my coffee, ate lunch, and my kids are still in school, so I have time to really be motivated and get things done before they come home. Set at timer for 15-30 minutes, whatever feels comfortable to you, and just power clean until that timer goes off. I’m not talking picking up because if you remember, we already talked about keeping organized so this should only take a few minutes. I’m talking wipe down bathrooms, vacuum, do the dishes, etc. Start with one thing you really want to get done and then keep going until the timer is up!

9. Take 10-15 minutes for yourself.

Like I said in the beginning of this blog post, self care is super important. Make sure you give yourself grace and allow yourself some time each day for YOU. Do something you enjoy. Watch your guilty pleasure TV show, play a game, read a book. Whatever fills your cup and makes you happy, do it and don’t for one second feel bad about taking that time. You can’t constantly take care of others, if you don’t take care of yourself.

10. Involve your kids.

Hey, your kids live in your home too! When your kid’s things are just randomly laying around the house, leave them and make them pick it all up. If leaving it bothers you, do what I do, pick it up and put it in a pile. When they come home from school make sure they put the pile away. Also, depending on the ages of your kids, assign them daily/weekly chores. This teaches them responsibility and how to take care of a home. It also takes some of the household tasks off your shoulders so you can focus on others. Something as simple as clearing off the table and wiping it down after dinner, or feeding the dogs. Those are some easy ones to start with!

There are my 10 Mom tips to help keep you motivated!

It’s not always easy, but there are definitely little things you can do to make it easier. Try to remember it’s okay to have an “off” day. Have your day, rest your mind, re-fill your cup, and start over the next day! You got this, Mama!
