5 Ways to Make Your Home More Cozy

As we head into the fall and winter months, we spend less and less time outside and more time inside. This is when you can really work on your home and create a space that you truly love! I recently stumbled upon the Danish word hygge. ‘Hygge is a quality of coziness that makes a person feel content and comfortable.’ Such a fun word! Why not bring some of that into your daily life? Here are 5 ways to make your home more cozy or hygge!

1. Add Curtains & Rug

Adding curtains and a rug to a space is the first step to creating a more cozy feel. Without these things your space will feel like it’s missing something. A rug grounds the space you are trying to create and the curtains tie everything together. I promise you, this combination will make your whole space feel more complete! Even if you have carpet, adding a rug will create more interest and really help define your space. Amazon is a great place to find rugs. I have curtains in my home downstairs, but none in my upstairs yet (this is something we are working on). The two spaces definitely feel different and I can’t wait to get some curtains up there!

Here are the curtains, the rods, and the curtain clips I am using in my home:

2. Soft Lighting – Use lamps & Candles

Soft lighting helps create a cozy atmosphere on those cold dreary days or in the evening when you are wanting to wind down and relax. I personally have all daylight lights in my home for every day, but then I have soft warm lights in all of my lamps to use in the evening. No one wants harsh lights when you are just trying to relax, so make sure you add lamps to your rooms! You can even do the same with candles. If you don’t want to light real ones, use the battery operated ones to create a nice cozy ambiance!

3. Pillows & Throw Blankets

Pillows and blankets are my absolute favorite. I may or may not be slightly obsessed with blankets. I have to have one at all times in every room no matter what the temp is! Listen, they just have a nice comforting affect to them. There’s nothing better then curling up on the couch with some comfy pillows and a warm blanket! Adding these things to your space visually makes it appear more cozy because the brain automatically thinks of curling up on the couch. I have some of my favorite pillow inserts and covers over in my SHOP if you want to check them out!

4. Add Scents

Scents are a must! There’s something so great about your space smelling amazing. You can use your favorite scent, a seasonal scent, a clean scent, or whatever you’d like. Either way, that amazing smell always make your home seem more inviting. I personally like to use wall plug ins and wax warmers but you could use candles, scent sticks, or oils. There are literally so many options to choose from!

5. Greenery/Fresh Flowers

I’m all about greenery! Adding a little bit of the outside inside not only cleans your air, but creates a peaceful space. Plants are super fun to decorate with and they add a pop of fresh color to your home. You could also use fresh flowers! Create a fun little table center piece with fresh flowers and it will not only add some beauty to your space, but also some nice fragrance. If you are not into real plants and flowers, grab some faux ones for the pop of color! Target has some of my favorite faux options.

I hope these 5 ways to make your home cozy gave you some inspiration to cozy up your space this fall and winter! Let me know in the comments which one was your favorite! If you want more home styling tips, check out all my other blog posts HERE.
