Mom’s Friday Cleaning Hack
You know what’s the best? Waking up on Saturday morning to a clean house! This new weekly cleaning routine I’ve recently started has seriously been life changing for us. Honestly, I wish I would have started this a long time ago, but it’s never too late. I like to call this my Mom’s Friday cleaning hack and trust me you want to check this out!
I do pick up and vacuum a bit throughout the week, but every Friday is my actual cleaning day. I’ve saved this day to just focus on cleaning. Since I do this every week, it really doesn’t take me long. If I need to, I pick up a little, but mostly I just wipe everything down and vacuum/mop. I like to start in the room furthest away from the bedrooms, so for me that’s my laundry room. I start there and work my way back to our bedroom.
By the time I’m done with my cleaning routine the kid’s are usually walking through the door from school. Now here’s the key to this really working and my favorite part! Get your kids on board with this routine. As soon as they get home, they hand me their phones. They know they have to clean their rooms and bathroom until it’s all Mom approved. Which means, I go in and inspect everything until it’s cleaned the way I would clean it. This includes, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, etc.
My kids are a little older, so it’s easier for them to do these things. If you have smaller children, work their way up to a full clean. I wish I would have started this with my kids when they were younger! I think it teaches them to take care of their space, and keeps them responsible for their own messes. They might not like it at first, but if you stay consistent with them it just becomes a normal part of their week.
My kids’ bedrooms were always such a mess, and don’t even get me started on their bathroom! This weekly routine has minimized that problem a lot. It doesn’t eliminate it completely, but I have noticed them keeping things a little tidier so it’s easier for them to clean on Fridays. That’s a win for me!
By dinner time the entire house is clean and ready for the weekend! This gives me the ability to actually enjoy my weekend. I’m definitely one of those people who are less stressed in a clean environment. The clean slate and restart every week really help keep me motivated and feel like I am actually on top of my stay at home Mama duties! 10 out of 10.
